Sergeant Major Christopher S. Gasser

Sergeant Major Christopher S. Gasser enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and attended Recruit Training in November 1997 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. After completing the Field Radio Operators Course and Multi-Channel Equipment Operators Course, Marine Corps Communications-Electronics School in Twenty-nine Palms, California, he reported to Marine Wing Communication Squadron 18 in Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. He participated in numerous communication exercises to include Cobra Gold in Thailand and Ulchi Focus Lens in Guam.

In September 1999, Sgt. Maj. Gasser was assigned to Communications Company, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division and held the billets of Team Leader, Site Chief, Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant. He attached to the U.S. Naval Ship, Bellatrix in October 2002, deployed to Kuwait, reattached to 1st Marine Division Forward/Task Force Tripoli in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In March 2004, Sgt. Maj. Gasser was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron 374 in Twenty-nine Palms, as the Radio Chief returning to Al Taquaddum Air Base, Iraq. Extending the deployment, he attached to Marine Wing Support Group 37 serving as the Watch Chief within the Combat Operations Center. In 2006, he later redeployed to Iraq with the 3rd Brigade, 7th Division Iraqi Army Military Transition Team.

In April 2007, Sgt. Maj. Gasser was reassigned to Marine Combat Instructor Course, School of Infantry (West). He was assigned to Marine Combat Training Battalion and served as a Squad Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, Platoon Commander, Company Gunnery Sergeant and finished his tour as the Battalion Logistics Chief.

In June 2010, Sgt. Maj. Gasser received orders to report to 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines as the Battalion Radio Chief, later promoted and assigned as Battery First Sergeant, Battery G, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines and later deployed to Kajaki District, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

In October 2012, Sgt. Maj. Gasser received orders to Inspector and Instructor Duty as the Inspector and Instructor First Sergeant for Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines, in North Canton, Ohio. In July 2016, Sgt. Maj. Gasser received orders to Headquarters Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 35, Okinawa, Japan. In February 2017, he was promoted to his current rank reassigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and deployed during the 17.1 - 18.2 Patrols. From February 2019 to April 2022, Sergeant Major Gasser was assigned as the Battalion Sergeant Major for 3d Intelligence Battalion, 3d MEF Information Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan. He went on to be assigned as the Group Sergeant Major for Marine Aircraft Group 39, III Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force. In December 2023, he was appointed to his current billet as Combined Arms Training Center, Camp Fuji Command Sergeant Major.

Sgt. Maj. Gasser's personal decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (with one gold star in lieu of 2nd award), Navy Commendation Medal (with two gold stars in lieu of 3rd award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with two gold stars in lieu of 3rd award), and the Combat Action Ribbon.
