The Range Safety Specialist (RSS) / Range Warden perform administrative and investigative duties related to the safe operation of ranges, training areas, and training facilities. He serves as the primary liaison for units desiring to conduct training both standard and non-standard training by conducting range patrols, onsite safety briefs, and range inspections; he also assists the range scheduling personnel.

By-passing
locked gates or RTA barriers is not authorized for any reason.
Gates are
locked for safety and routinely are used to prohibit access to live fire areas
in use. By-passing locked gates or RTA barriers could result in property
damage, injury or death.
CATC Range Safety Officer (RSO) / Range
Officer-In-Charge (OIC) Requirements
Must have successfully completed the USMC Range
Safety Course (Basic) – Distance Learning and provide a copy of the course
completion certificate (valid for 3 years)
Must attend complete the CATC Range Safety Class
and successfully pass the Range Safety Test.
Must be verified and appointed in writing (Command
Designation Letter) by the parent Unit Commander to be qualified (RSO) or
certified (OIC) for the weapons systems, munitions, and training devices for
which they are accountable.
