Housing information for inbound personnel

Who lives off-base and on-base?

- All unaccompanied military personnel are housed in either the BEQ (E-1 - E-5) or the BOQ (E-6 and above).

- All E-6 and above rate COMRATS.

- Accompanied service members and all civilians must pursue housing off-base.

Basic allowance for housing (BAH) will be received with dependents based from location of your last permanent duty station (PDS), if they are not in government housing. If the dependents residence zip code is different than your last PDS your PCS orders need to be endorsed by your detaching administrative center authorizing you to receive the BAH rate of the actual residence zip code. (Refer to Joint Federal Travel Regulation (JFTR) U10408 Table U10E-6 Rule 1 and MCO 7220.56).

- If you have been assigned to Camp Fuji, contact us to get a sponsor.

- All unaccompanied military personnel are housed in either the BEQ (E-1 - E-5) or the BOQ (E-6 and above).

- Cost of living allowance (COLA),  Overseas COLA Calculator, can be calculated by using the Locality Code by inputting our COLA Code: JP067.

- Family separation allowance (FSA-R) for your dependents, will be received while you are stationed at Camp Fuji.

Accompanied service members and all civilians must pursue housing off-base. Camp Fuji only provides housing accomodations for unaccompanied service members. Unlike larger installations which have communities used to U.S. military presence, Camp Fuji remains a small installation with a relatively low need for external housing. Large or western sized homes and apartments are NOT available in the towns near CATC Camp Fuji. 

Approximate 30-minute driving radius to CATC Camp Fuji looks like

 

  • Typically expect 2-3 month’s rent deposit, possibly 2-3 month’s rent key money, and one month’s rent agent fee.

  • The deposit is not covered by the LQA.

  • Utility bills (gas, water, sewage, electricity) are included in LQA, but personnel must retain all receipts or bills for end-of-year reconciliation. 

  • There is no housing office at Camp Fuji. Okinawa and Atsugi do not provide guidance or support to civilians living in the area.

  • There is only one dedicated Japanese-speaking person available assist in-bound personnel in off-base housing searches. If they are unavailable due to leave or other reasons, section coworkers may also be able to provide support.

Large or western sized homes and apartments are NOT available in the towns near CATC Camp Fuji.

Average bedroom sizes are 5-6帖 (chou), much smaller than average U.S. homes.

5帖 = ~88.95sqft = ~8.26sqm

6.5帖 = ~115.60 sqft = ~10.74sqm

Some of your furniture may not fit in your Japanese home. It is your responsibility to plan accordingly. If your furniture does not fit through your dwelling doors, it will be your responsibility to make other arrangements.  

Many homes and apartments are listed as a number, followed by abbreviations.  Some examples are 3DK, 4LDK, or 2LDK.

Other overseas installations may loan out furniture during your assignment or on a temporary basis. Camp Fuji does not provide those services.

While you may not be able to bring many larger furniture items, due to their size. You will be able to find furniture to fit your Japanese dwelling. There are several Japanese furniture stores selling furniture that will fit well into your local dwellings.

There are also second-hand stores that sell used furniture.  

Power in Japan is 100 volts and 60/50 Hertz.  Be sure to check whether your appliances will work well in Japan.  

Many outlets are also different, you may need to buy an adapter for some of your power chords.
